Managing a Firewall

Managing a Firewall
Webroot’s firewall eliminates unauthorized access to your computer at home, at the office, or on the road. Using a multi-layered approach to defense, it can block malware, hacking attempts, and other online threats before they can enter and cause damage to your system. When the firewall detects any unrecognized or suspicious activity attempting to travel through your computer, it provides an alert message where you can block the data flow or allow it to proceed.
To monitor traffic, the firewall checks incoming and outgoing packets that travel between your computer and the Internet or that travel within your local network. To analyze which packets are safe and which could be harmful, the firewall checks the packets against filters, which define the rules for which traffic to allow or deny.
The firewall already has some preconfigured settings that protect your computer. However, you should perform some additional configuration tasks so the firewall knows what traffic you consider acceptable or not.
To configure and manage the firewall, see the following topics:
Setting the training period.
Set the training mode for at least seven days, so the firewall can learn what is normal activity on your computer.
Managing network traffic.
Enable the firewall to begin filtering traffic.
Managing application traffic.
Control whether the traffic associated with your applications are allowed or blocked.
Viewing firewall reports.
View logs to see what types of traffic are moving through the firewall.
